CF Martin M38
This was delivered personally by Chris Martin and Chris Thomas (of the CF Martin Guitar Company) at the Music Fair in Frankfurt in April 2011.
The big D model guitars are great for performing, they put out a lot of power and yet they respond beautifully to subtlety. However, one has to put some power into the playing to get the best from the guitar, but this instrument, the M38, is an easy guitar to play. It was designed for light gauge strings (which I always use), it has a crispness of tone and is very well balanced tonally across all of the strings.
Because the body is not as deep as a Dreadnought, it’s comfortable to play (I have a lot of trouble with my right shoulder from playing the Dreadnoughts) and it’s the guitar of choice at home when I’m practising and also in the studio, where sometimes the Dreadnoughts can have too much bass.
